There are several reasons why you may get declined for mobile phones particularly the Iphone they are:

- The risk to reward factor – Mobile networks want to know that you will pay before they give you a mobile phone. They have a breakeven point that they are willing to accept passed. If the phone is expensive either the price per month must be higher or the contract longer.

- Longer contracts mean more risk to the network

- The Iphone is in high demand and so the networks can pick and choose who they sell too as demand is often higher than the supply of phones to customers.

I want an iPhone what can I do?

There are 2 options:

- Apply for a sim only contract for a few months and gain network trust. Then apply for an iPhone and get approved

- Get an iPhone on pay as you go as you would have paid for the handset in your monthly bill anyway

Why go Direct? Mobile phone networks have a variety of criteria like all mobile companies on who they will and won’t accept. Mobile networks have the power to be more favourable for a small deposit or other extended terms where as a mobile retailer has stricter controls on what sort of customer they will accept. Why go for a sim only option? Simcards cost the network a pittance in comparison to the expensive mobiles they often give away for free. This means the network can simply cut you off if you don’t pay your bills on time. This means less risk and a greater chance you will get approved. T Mobile has good acceptance rates on SOLO Sim Only Contracts ;-)

What to do if I still get refused for a mobile contract? As mentioned above, check your credit report and build up loyalty with your current network on pay as you go. You could also get a relative to apply in their name if you have a good trusting relationship.

The one difference is that with mobile broadband the dongles sold as part of the contract are fairly cheap to product. This makes it a lower risk to the mobile networks other than if you go over your allowance of course and they can cut you off if that happens.

Mobile broadband with bad credit can still be applied for but it is strongly reccommended that you do not apply for mobile broadband with a free laptop as the decline rates are extremely high. The tips for applying for mobile broadband with a bad credit rating are similar to those of a normal mobile contract:

- Apply direct with a mobile phone network

- Don’t go for expensive equipment such as free laptops

- Be expected to pay a small security deposit if required to secure the deal.
